Searching for the right roofing contractor is no easy feat for homeowners. You need to find out if this is the right person for the job. Select the correct one, and you’ll have a good roof. But choose wrong, and you may wind up paying a significant amount in the long run. Luckily, there is a way to properly determine if the contractor you’re looking at is the person you need: references.
Here are important questions you need to ask your potential roofer’s references before hiring the person.
1. What Do the Suppliers Think of Them?
If you can, get in touch with the long-time material suppliers of your potential roofing company, and ask them if the roofer pays the dues owed the suppliers on time. This is important because if it turns out that the roofers don’t, you may get stuck with a lien on your property, or you may end up having to pay the bill they racked up yourself.
2. Was the Contractor Professional and Courteous?
While you’re performing your background check, ask your prospective roofers for three references from the past five years. There’s no doubt that they’ll provide you with three of their favorite clients. Once they have, call the references, and ask a few questions. One of these questions should be geared towards the roofer’s professionalism and courtesy.
3. Were You Satisfied With the Work They Did?
Asking previous clients if they were satisfied with the work the contractors did can go a long way in helping you make your decision. If they are satisfied, it means that they do their job in a way that ensures homeowners get what they want. If they weren’t, then it might mean that your contractor did not follow the proper procedures to get the job done.
4. Would You Hire Them Again?
Note that contractors’ references are usually their favorite clients. Keeping this in mind, you could get a deeper insight into the work ethic of your future roofers by asking their clients whether they’d be willing to hire the contractors again.
5. How Was Your Experience Working With This Roofer?
You can ask this question to clients and other third parties. Roofing jobs can take time to complete, and it’s important to know whether it’ll be easy working with your prospective roofing contractor for the whole duration of the project. A lot could go wrong when having your roof serviced so your relationship with your roofer should be the last thing to worry you.
